Synopsis

Once Upon A Time…

A King makes a promise to his dying wife to marry only someone with her golden hair. The King finds his eyes are turned by his maturing daughter. Realizing her Father’s intentions, Princess Aurelia tries to trick her Father by requesting impossible gifts: Dresses created by the Sun, Moon and Stars and a Coat made of a Thousand furs. When she discovers his success, Aurelia decides to sacrifice her privileged life and escapes the Kingdom disguised in the cloak, and under a new name, “Allerleirauh.” Aurelia enters the Kingdom of Saarlandder Licht where she is taken under the wing of the handsome Prince Klaus. Aurelia must face herself, her past and her fears in her journey of self discovery. “Allerleirauh” is a Retelling of the Grimm Brothers’ Fairy Tale classic.

All I can say in one sentence is that this was such a sweet yet sort of disturbing book! In the best way of course ;). I did know this fairy tale and its like I was reading this story for the first time. The world, the characters and the plot was very straightforward and to the point and wholesome..and sweet, like I said. Which I think was great since this is a stand alone. There are no loose strings.

This story is about a young princess, Aurelia (this name is much, much easier to pronounce) whose mother dies and now she lives with her crazy-in-the-head daddy, who is the King (duh). Her mom made her dad promise that he would only remarry a girl who looked like herself (self-obsessed much?). Finally, after a few years, the King gets the idea about who he can remarry. His daughter (gross). She runs away…away into the arms of another prince, Klaus (oh la la). The rest, you read.

This book went exactly like I expected. If anything, it was a very comfortable read. No pressure. Not that intense, so I would recommend it as a book mourning book, or a simple fast book to read. The things I loved about this book were that it was a fast, quick read and anyone can get through it. The writing is nicely composed. And Klaus. Of course.

The characters were all different. The protagonist was just the sweetest. She seemed bratty and confused and weak in the beginning but she develops a lot by the end. In fact, I am glad that the author did not do the whole “rebellious princess” trope. The end was very satisfying…too satisfying even.

Overall, I think this book was fun, cute, and totally readable for ANYONE. 🙂

Thats all I guess!
